This short film is a lockdown collaboration between a photographer/filmmaker and a writer who find themselves unable to travel to the Arctic landscape which has inspired them in the past – or indeed to travel anywhere. The film explores lightness and darkness, literal and metaphorical – the elongated light regime of the polar regions, and the darkness of its disruption due to anthropogenic climate change. The film presents the viewer with moments of suspension and reconsideration, just as the response to Covid-19 has required this of us as societies, offering an oblique comment on the connections between the Arctic, climate change and our present predicament.
